Special Events

One weekly slot, a different special event each week. Every event has its own age band: a min to max range chosen week by week, and announced ahead of time, so you always know who a given week is for before you book. The bands change from week to week on purpose: it opens the door to meeting different age spectrums.

Each event carries one tag, so the listing tells you who a week is for: Singles, Couples, or Others, to cater for different audiences. The format is the same whoever the week is for: your own room, your own teachers, and a safe space to learn in.

Each city sets its own day and time; in London it is every Sunday from 2pm, a daytime event on purpose, because dance events almost always run in the evening, and it does not run late. You learn a little of each dance in your own room, with your own teachers, and there is plenty of time to relax and socialise. It is about connection, not technique: learning the different dances together is how you build one.

One event, three rooms

This is part of our main event, not a side show. Three rooms run at the same time, in the same building: Brazilian Zouk has its own room, Bachata Sensual has its own room, and the week’s special event has its own, whatever tag runs that week.

After your event, your ticket gives you the run of the building: you are free to roam every room for the rest of the main event. That is the whole point: it is how we introduce you to the dance community.

What the event is

• The shape of the day: classes and workshops first, then the party.
• Tasters of each dance, taught by teachers dedicated to your room.
• Plenty of time to relax and just socialise. That is deliberate, not filler between classes.
• Each event has its own format, and its listing states what the ticket includes, such as food or a drinks coupon. Some events include neither, and the listing says so.
• The learning format can differ per event too, and each event states its own. The general learning programme is on our Learning page.
• Your own space: you are never dropped into a class of experienced dancers.

Tickets

A ticket is for one event, paid up front when you book. There is no subscription and no course to commit to; you book the date you want to come.

Tickets come in four shapes: Leader, Follower, Pair and solo. Which shapes an event sells is shown with its tickets when they go on sale. Most events sell Leader and Follower tickets, with separate allocations so the room stays balanced. A Couples event sells a Pair only: one Leader and one Follower booked together, never individually, so the room balances itself. A solo ticket carries no role at all.

New to Leader and Follower? The leader proposes the moves and the follower responds; neither is harder, and neither is tied to gender. Pick the one you want to dance: that is the role you dance at the event. At events sold as Leader and Follower, every ticket counts to one side, which is what keeps the room even, and if one side sells out, the other stays on sale.

We never ask for your gender, at booking or at the door. Roles are not gendered, and where an event mixes partners you may well dance with someone of the same gender; if one of you would rather not, say so and move on. Nobody has to accept a dance, and “no thank you” is a complete answer.

Anyone inside the event’s age band can buy a ticket, including our existing dance members. Membership does not include it: a member books and pays like anyone else.

Every event has an age band, and we do check

Each event is for its own audience inside its own age band only, and no event ever goes below 18. The same rule applies to everyone, including our own dance members. Photo ID is checked at the door against the name on the booking, and your date of birth is checked against that event’s band, so bring it.
