Learning

Our programmes are designed so you can enjoy it from day one, and keep learning the artistry and growing the skills to enjoy social dancing more and more over the years! You will be looked after and cared for by our teachers, coaches and mentors, and you choose whose guidance and wing you grow under.

This page is our general learning program: our regular dance classes, running weekly alongside our special events. For the special events, the learning format may different for each event, and each event states its own.

The classes come in three simple formats, each a step deeper:

• Super Dance Express is made for your first time: learn 3 moves in 10 minutes. Arrive anytime up to an hour before the party finishes and a team member teaches you.
• Dance Express is a scheduled one-hour class: learn 6 moves over 3 weeks. You can hop back into it as many times as you like; we recommend a minimum of 3 weeks working on it.
• Fundamentals is a set hour inside the membership, and the format varies week to week with different focus areas: some weeks class based, some workgroup based. A workgroup week may look like 15 minutes of coach tips, 30 minutes of closed workgroup practice and 15 minutes of student sharing. The techniques, coaching and mentoring carry on in and out of class.

For now, one regular social event, done well. Rooms for dancing and rooms for learning. No clutter, no gimmicks. It runs on membership, with pay as you go if you are not ready to commit, and 3% of every membership subscription goes into a youth fund that supports dancers under 18.

That is where it starts, not where it stops. We are working towards more days of the week, and a place of our own with food and drink served and the jobs that come with running it.

Your teachers, coaches and mentors go with you. Dancing in the park, down by the river, at another school’s class, at somebody else’s social: if they are there, you are under their wing. That is what the subscription pays for. The team you chose stays around you, dances with you, encourages you and feeds back as you grow.

Most of the people we are after are not dancers yet. We take the friction out of starting, get beginners onto the floor enjoying themselves as fast as we can, and keep them growing after that, because there is no end to learning this. Your first event is the beginning, not the whole journey: what comes after is all the schools around you, and we point you onward to them, to learn from as many teachers as you can.
